Selah

Written for our youth worship service:

Selah.

It is one of the most mysterious and important words in Scripture, mainly in the book of Psalms. Scholars aren’t 100% sure what it means.

Many believe that it refers to a pause in music, a time to pause and reflect.

Pause and reflect.

How often do we take the time to rid ourselves of distractions, and be still.

God is saying, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Let us take time to pause and reflect on the meaning of the words we sing.

Selah.

Think of a moment when you felt close to God, when you felt His presence, when you heard His voice.

Remember where you were, what was going on around you.

Pause and reflect.

God remembers that moment, too. The Lord desires relationship, he desires intimacy, and he desires your attention. You are the pinnacle of creation, in which He is well pleased.

Open your heart to receive what the Lord is speaking to you. Open your heart to receive the father’s love.

Selah.

God is here.

Jesus loves you with a jealous love. Are you jealous for Jesus?

God craves spending time with you. God is saying, “Be still and spend time with me.”

Pause and reflect.

Remember that worship is a time to pause and reflect.

Selah is worship.

No one is looking at you. Don’t hold back. The Lord is waiting for you.

Amen.
